McLeod STEAM Studio

Committee/Council Description:
The McLeod STEAM Studio will provide new spaces for students at McLeod Elementary School to engage in STEAM activities. The resources provided by JLJ will be organized into dedicated, flexible-use STEAM centers that teachers can integrate into daily instruction. These resources will allow students to design bridges, code simple programs, explore sound through art, experiment with chemical reactions, and much more. To increase family involvement, JLJ will host monthly STEAM Studio open houses in these redesigned spaces.

Specific Job Responsibilities of Placement:
In partnership with McLeod Elementary School, volunteers will assist with approximately eight weekday evening programs throughout the school year (September – May). At the start of the school year, volunteers will organize the STEAM centers (date TBD and flexible). JLJ volunteers will be key players in boosting our STEAM project by providing extra support and facilitating STEAM activities with students and their families.

Insights and experience members will gains:
A desire to work and interact with children is necessary. This placement is ideal for those who want a flexible project initiation with monthly, weekday evening volunteer hours.

Committee Meeting Details:
As a volunteer on the McLeod STEAM Studio Project, you must meet the following requirements to complete your project placement and receive project credit for the year. If you have any questions or cannot meet the requirements as described, please contact the Placement Chair at placement@jljackson.org for further direction.

Note: The following list is an outline of the project requirements. As needs arise, this list may be modified or expounded upon in order to properly complete the project for the Community Partner.
  1. Attend project orientation.*
  2. Attend cultural competency training.*
  3. Complete your online project evaluation and online placement evaluation upon project conclusion.*
  4. Complete background check and JPS volunteer application.
  5. Participate in and attend shifts as specified by the project chair.
  6. Complete all community partner volunteer requirements.
