Arts in Motion is a summer arts enrichment camp for Kindergarten – 5th grade JPS students participating in Mission First's summer program. Mission First is a community outreach ministry focused on helping families in one of the metro area's most underserved neighborhoods. Many of the participants in Arts in Motion are repeat Mission First campers and look forward to Arts in Motion each year. Arts in Motion will be held July 08-12, 2024.

Specific Job Responsibilities of Placement:
JLJ volunteers will be involved in all aspects of the week's events, including programming and event planning, supply and snack shopping, implementation of daily activities, and a Camp Celebration showcasing campers' artwork and camp experiences to their parents. Daily camp activities include art, music, drama, crafts, snack, physical education, etc. The last day of the camp will be a Field Trip Day to visit various locations around the Jackson-metro area.

Committee Meeting Details:
As a volunteer on the Arts in Motion project, you must meet the following requirements to complete your project placement and receive project credit for the year. If you have any questions or cannot meet the requirements as described, please contact the Placement Chair at placement@jljackson.org for further direction.

Note: The following list is an outline of the project requirements. As needs arise, this list may be modified or expounded upon in order to properly complete the project for the Community Partner.
  1. Attend project orientation.*
  2. Attend cultural competency training.*
  3. Complete your online project evaluation and online placement evaluation upon project conclusion.*
  4. This camp is a five-day camp. Volunteers MUST attend each day of camp and remain at camp for the full-time commitment specified by the project chair.
  5. Participate in and attend planning meetings within your specified project area of camp (dates TBA).
  6. Organize and order supplies for your camp project area prior to camp week.
  7. Participate in and attend the camp's showcase event (typically held the Thursday evening of camp week).

Orientation or Training Details:
  • Attend project orientation. (date, time, and location TBA)
  • Attend cultural competency training.
  • Complete your online project evaluation and online placement evaluation upon project conclusion.
  • Complete the online Serv Safe Food Training session. This training lasts approximately one hour.
Important Information:
The camp week will be held July 8-12, 2024, on the campus of Mission First. The camp is Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm, with the Camp Celebration Showcase being held on the Thursday evening of the camp week. Volunteers are required to attend all days and assist with preparation prior to the camp.

During the week of camp, volunteers should expect to be available Monday through Friday from 7:30 am – 3:30 pm as well as on Thursday evening from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

Volunteers are required to participate in a post-project evaluation and celebration on an evening in the fall (date TBA).
