Brainiac Bootcamp

Project Description:
First Year Active Members Eligible
Through Brainiac Bootcamp, the goal is to increase kindergarten readiness by providing Pre-K students with intentional, focused academic support in a nurturing and engaging environment. The program seeks to lay a strong foundation for future academic success by equipping children with the skills, confidence, and mindset needed to thrive in the early grades. JLJ members will work with Pre-Kindergarten children, ages 4 to 5, to help provide the foundational academic and social-emotional skills necessary for success in their academic career.

Specific Job Responsibilities of Placement:
In partnership with Van Winkle Early Childhood Center, volunteers will assist with approximately eight Saturday morning programs throughout the school year (September – May). Volunteers will be activity facilitators, reading buddies, and assist in parent workshops. A desire to work and interact with young children is necessary.

This is a good placement for those who want a consistent, weekend, once-a-month placement

As a volunteer on the Brainiac Bootcamp Project, you must meet the following requirements to complete your project placement and receive project credit for the year. If you have any questions or cannot meet the requirements as described, please contact the Placement Chair at placement@jljackson.org for further direction.

The following list is an outline of the project requirements.  As needs arise, this list may be modified or expounded upon in order to properly complete the project for the Community Partner.

  1. Attend project orientation.*
  2. Attend cultural competency training.*
  3. Complete your online project evaluation and online placement evaluation upon project conclusion.*
  4. Complete background check and JPS volunteer application.
  5. Participate in and attend shifts as specified by the project chair.
  6. Complete all community partner volunteer requirements.

Important Information:
This project will meet approximately eight times over the school year at Van Winkle Early Childhood Center.
