Volunteers will support a Summer Enrichment Camp at the Salvation Army Community Complex. Enrichment Camp volunteers will provide a week-long summer camp for children ages 6-12. Activities will be centered around nutrition and physical activity, and volunteers will serve nutritious snacks and encourage healthier eating habits. The camp is anticipated to take place July 23-27, 2025.

Specific Job Responsibilities of Placement:
There will also be flexible volunteer hours leading up to the week of camp, such as planning the camp curriculum and purchasing supplies prior to the start of the camp.  Volunteers will provide breakfast and lunch during the week of the camp and assist in one-on-one tutoring of campers.

Insights and experience members will gain:
A desire to work and interact with children is necessary.

As a volunteer for the C.H.A.R.G.E. project, you must meet the following requirements to complete your project placement and receive project credit for the year. If you have questions or cannot meet the requirements described, please contact the Placement Chair at placement@jljackson.org for further direction.

Note: The following list is an outline of the project requirements. As needs arise, this list may be modified or expounded upon to complete the project properly for the Community Partner.
  1. Attend project orientation.*
  2. Attend cultural competency training.*
  3. Complete your online project evaluation and online placement evaluation upon project conclusion.*
  4. This camp is a five-day camp. Volunteers MUST attend each day of camp and remain at camp for the full-time commitment specified by the project chair.
  5. Participate in and attend planning meetings within your specified project area of camp (dates TBA).
  6. Organize and order supplies for your camp project area prior to camp week.
  7. Participate in and attend the camp's showcase event (date TBA).

Orientation or Training Details:
  • Orientation and training sessions with Salvation Army Programs staff will be held prior to the start of camp (date TBA but typically occurs in April or May).
  • As part of Salvation Army policy, all volunteers must complete a volunteer application, sign a volunteer services release form, complete a release and waiver of liability form and background checks. 
  • Volunteers are required to participate in a post-project evaluation and celebration on an evening in the summer (date TBA).
