Specific Job Responsibilities of Placement:
McClean Fletcher Center Facilitator volunteers are trained by the Center to work in supporting roles with a group of approximately 10-15 children per session. Children are encouraged to talk about their loss but are not required to do so; volunteers are there to listen but also to play with the children and help them have fun!

Insights and experience members will gains:
Facilitator volunteers should have good listening skills and be mature individuals who have not experienced the death of a close family member or loved one in the last year.

As a volunteer on the McClean Fletcher Center - Facilitator project, you must meet the following requirements in order to complete your project placement and receive project credit for the year. If you have any questions or cannot meet the requirements as described, please contact the Placement Chair and Placement Co-Chair for further direction at placement@jljackson.org for further direction.

Note: The following list is an outline of the project requirements. As needs arise, this list may be modified or expounded upon in order to properly complete the project for the Community Partner.
  1. Attend project orientation.*
  2. Attend cultural competency training.*
  3. Complete your online project evaluation and online placement evaluation upon project conclusion.*
  4. New volunteers: attend orientation at the McClean Fletcher Center (occurs in May, date TBA). Also, attend a mandatory training session at McClean Fletcher Center in late summer (full day Saturday & Sunday afternoon, date TBA).
  5. Attend group sessions at the center either every other Monday, every other Tuesday, or every other Thursday evening from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm. The project reflects the school year calendar regarding summer vacation and holidays.
  6. Communicate (via text) with the McClean Fletcher Center director, regarding absences and meeting reminders.

Orientation or Training Details:
  • Project Orientation (date, time, and location TBA)
  • New volunteers: attend orientation at the McClean Fletcher Center (occurs in May, date TBA).
  • Attend a mandatory training session at McClean Fletcher Center in late summer (full day Saturday & Sunday afternoon, date TBA).

Important Information:
This project is an evening-based, school-year project that requires a background check, confidentiality agreement, and submission of a volunteer application.

Facilitators are scheduled to serve every other week, on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evening(s) from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm at the McClean Fletcher Center, based on the volunteer's preference of days and age group of children. A one-time 12-hour training session with McClean Fletcher will be required prior to the school year (Saturday and Sunday, date TBA).

Specific Job Responsibilities of Placement:
McClean Fletcher Center Food and Outreach volunteers will serve two roles. Once a month, the volunteer will provide meals for children and caregivers at the Center at 5:15pm on one pre-coordinated weekday night. Volunteers will stay to greet arriving children and their families before the group session, serve dinner, and clean up the kitchen.

Food and Outreach duties are self-directed and task oriented.

  7. Greet and serve families as they arrive and clean kitchen after meal completion.
